Advanced Drawing for Teens

Tuesdays: 2:00pm - 3:30 pm OR 4:00pm - 5:30pm

This advanced drawing class is designed for teens with a strong drawing foundation who wish to enhance their skills. The course focuses on boosting confidence in drawing and shading, exploring techniques to achieve realism, including perspective, proportions, composition, contrast, shading, tonal values, texture, and fine detail. It also distinguishes between expressive and representational drawings.

Students will work with various media—pencil, pen and ink, oil pastels, charcoal, and colored pencil—learning the unique effects each can create. Subjects include inanimate objects, still life, landscapes, urban scenes, animals, and portraiture. A sketchbook for homework will help students practice and refine their skills, fostering critical and creative thinking.

Sketch & Shade:
Exploring Graphite Shading Techniques

Tuesdays: 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Intermediate – Advanced

This class focuses on exploring sketching and shading techniques using graphite: continuous tone, hatching, cross hatching, stippling, and other shading methods. These techniques enable artists to achieve a wide range of textures, tones, and depth in their drawings. Mastery of these methods enhances the ability to render realistic
and expressive artworks.

Creative Lines: Mastering Drawing Fundamentals

August-Sept (8-week class)
Tuesdays 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Beginners – Intermediate

This class focuses on the foundation of all drawing skills: contour lines (blind, modified, and cross contour), continuous line, implied lines, and line variations (thickness, texture, and direction), and principles of composition.

Mastering these fundamental techniques allows artists to enhance their observational skills, convey depth and texture, and create dynamic compositions. Practicing each type of line and understanding their application will lead to more expressive and technically sound drawings.
